Creating a market for sustainable cashmere in Mongolia

Blog by SDGs and Private Sector Programme Officer at  UNDP Mongolia, Satoko Okamoto, on working towards sustainable cashmere UNDP’s Green Commodities Programme. “Producing sustainable cashmere is not that difficult as it has been embedded into our centuries-long nomadic lifestyle. For us Mongolians, our livestock is not just a commodity or an economic asset. Instead, any Mongolian herder would establish a special bond with the livestock,” said one herder from Tsagaan-Ovoo province. The programme also aims to support producers to develop global markets and to receive a fair price for their products.
