Report #2: Water Harvesting and Water Management Options for Agricultural Communities in Laos (March 2013)
Enhancement of water management opportunities will increase the resilience and adaptive capacity ofn agricultural communities to climate change, and help achieve Lao National Socio-Economic Development Plan’s goals. The mission on “Effective Water Management and Water Harvesting for Agriculture Adaptation to Climate Change” was mobilized by the IRAS project in order to assess opportunities for strengthened water management and water harvesting for target districts and provinces in Lao PDR and recommend measures to
prepare for the uncertainties in water availability caused by Climate Change. This second report (“Water Harvesting and Water Management Options for Agricultural Communities in Laos”) will be most useful at the community level. It is the result of site visits in the target communities and a synopsis of water harvesting and water management possibilities that are suitable to the climate, terrain, and specific local needs primarily in target communities in Paklai and Phiang Districts in Xayabouri Province, and Outhomphone and Champhone Districts in Savannakhet Province.
