For communities across Tajikistan, climate change is a daily reality. Accelerating glacier melt, water stress, extreme weather events and ecosystem degradation are affecting agricultural production, household incomes and access to essential resources. In rural areas, where around 70 per cent of Tajikistan’s population lives, climate change affects everyday life and livelihoods. Women and men experience these impacts differently depending on their responsibilities, economic opportunities, access to resources and influence over household and community decisions.
With support from UNDP and the Green Climate Fund, Tajikistan developed its National Adaptation Plan (NAP) to support the implementation of the National Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change up to 2030. Covering six key sectors, the NAP has become an important framework for integrating adaptation priorities into national development programmes and advancing coordinated action to strengthen the resilience of women, men and communities across Tajikistan.
