The agriculture and land use sectors are crucial for climate action. However, translating national climate plans (NDCs and NAPs) into impactful on-the-ground implementation remains a significant challenge for many countries. To address this gap, the UNDP–FAO Climate Action Review (CAR) Tool was developed under the Scaling up Climate Ambition in Land Use and Agriculture through Nationally Determined Contributions and National Adaptation Plans (SCALA) programme.
The CAR Tool empowers countries to identify, analyze, and prioritize climate solutions within their agrifood systems based on their transformative potential, thereby facilitating the crucial transition from planning to effective implementation and accelerating transformative climate action. This online training session will provide an introductory training on the CAR Tool to climate adaptation practitioners.
Drawing on practical experience and adaptable to diverse country contexts and strategic priorities, the tool guides users through a participatory, step-by-step approach to identify actionable entry points for transformative change, leveraging adaptation actions included in the NDCs and NAPs. This evidence-based approach makes the CAR Tool an invaluable resource for advancing transformative climate action.
Objectives
This interactive training session will:
- Provide an overview of the CAR Tool and an illustration of its use in Mongolia will give participants the opportunity to interact with the tool and learn the step-by-step approach to using it in a participatory process
- Give guidance on how to interpret and use the outputs of the tool
- Stimulate ideas on how to apply the tool in the NDC 3.0 planning process
