Combating Desertification In Pakistan

Attending a seminar on Combating Desertification in Pakistan - organized by Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi  in collaboration with the Sustainable Land Management Programme - Adviser to Prime Minister on Climate Change, Malik Amin Aslam identified desertification as a major challenge to sustainable development, with 62 million hectares of the country's 79.6 million hectares total land vulnerable to desertification. He said combating the problem required concerted efforts at wider scale and Ministry of the Climate Change was approaching this with a climate-smart approach. The Advisor highlighted the contributions of SLMP and commended the joint efforts by the UNDP Pakistan and GEF for their valuable support.
