Protecting the Nile Delta from sea-level rise | February 2022

The Nile Delta hosts 18 million citizens – almost a quarter of Egypt’s population — as well as countless businesses, economic sectors, farms and more. The region is also one of the world’s most vulnerable areas when it comes to sea-level rise, extreme weather conditions, and other factors worsened by climate change.  To address these issues, the Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation has partnered with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF) – the world’s largest dedicated climate fund – to launch a new climate project, Enhancing Climate Change Adaptation in the North Coast of Egypt.
