Two Ethiopian farmers at the Lugo Watershed harvesting crops

Location: Lusaka, Zambia; Mulungushi Conference Centre
Time: 09:00-10:30 am

Context

Following COP29 and COP16, there is a clear opportunity to align climate change adaptation and biodiversity actions. Reinforcing these synergies helps to reduce duplicated efforts and makes the best use of limited financial resources for implementing National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) and national biodiversity strategies and action plans (NBSAPs). Governments have a critical role to play by mainstreaming this integrated approach into their policies and by exploring opportunities for coordinated resource mobilization.

Building on the momentum of the continued Convention on Biological Diversity COP16 session, this event, co-led by the FAO and UNDP under the SCALA programme, will emphasize the rationale for leveraging synergies between nature-based solutions for implementing NAPs and biodiversity plans in agrifood systems.

The objectives of the session are:

  • To illustrate, with country examples, approaches to implementing solutions that protect and restore national biodiversity and ecosystems while strengthening climate resilience in agrifood systems.
  • To identify practical entry points for incorporating biodiversity and resilience solutions in agrifood systems into NAP formulation and implementation.
  • To demonstrate available services to implement and scale up nature-positive adaptation priorities identified in the NAPs.

This 1h50 session encourages participation from government, civil society, financing institutions, and the donor community.
