This policy brief presents key findings from a barrier analysis conducted by the Mongolian National Federation of Pasture User Groups (MNFPUG) with support from the SCALA programme. The analysis aimed to identify opportunities for better integrating Mongolia’s leather industry into national climate strategies. It highlights persistent challenges, including limited private sector engagement in climate planning, underdeveloped regulatory and financial incentives for sustainable practices, and weak information systems and supply chain traceability. The brief also addresses misperceptions around the industry’s environmental impact and calls for greater investment in technical capacity, institutional coordination, and public communication to support a more sustainable and climate-resilient sector.
