This report presents a feasibility assessment of composting as a climate-smart waste management and agricultural solution in Grenada, conducted under the SCALA Private Sector Facility. Responding to growing waste challenges, increasing climate risks, and Grenada’s dependence on imported fertilizers, the study examines the potential to valorize organic waste through commercially viable composting models that support emissions reduction targets under the country’s NDC. The assessment analyzes organic waste volumes and disposal routes, models multiple composting business scenarios, and evaluates their technical, environmental, and financial feasibility. Findings show that diverting organic waste from landfills to composting could supply at least 16 percent of the macronutrient needs of Grenada’s agrifood sector while reducing greenhouse gas emissions from treated organic waste by up to 98 percent. The report concludes that a commercial composting facility processing 6,500 tonnes of segregated organic waste into 2,500 tonnes of high-quality compost is viable, with positive financial indicators, and underscores the importance of demonstration projects and awareness-raising to support market uptake.
