The “Enhancing Climate Resilience of India’s Coastal Communities” project is a collaboration between the Government of India, the Government of Odisha, the Green Climate Fund, and UNDP.
Implemented through an ecosystem-based, community-driven approach, the project serves as a proof of concept for mainstreaming climate change into development plans and policies across both public and private sectors.
The initiative supports the Government’s efforts to address the impacts of climate-induced hazards on vulnerable coastal communities—particularly women and children—by strengthening resilience to extreme weather events and promoting climate-adaptive livelihoods.
Activities align with the National Action Plan on Climate Change and the Odisha State Action Plan, while contributing to India’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). The project is also expected to help shape the future direction of the National Coastal Mission.
