As a small island developing state in the Pacific, Samoa faces increasing risks from severe tropical storms and climate-induced flooding. In response, the Government has adopted a programmatic approach to build resilience.

With financing from the Green Climate Fund, the Government-led, UNDP-supported project Integrated Flood Management to Enhance Climate Resilience of the Vaisigano River Catchment aims to reduce flood impacts in the river basin, which flows through Apia—Samoa’s economic and political hub.

The project will directly benefit around 26,500 people through upgraded infrastructure and drainage systems, integrated flood planning, and nature-based solutions like riverworks and ecosystem restoration.
