This Regional Briefing on National Adaptation Plans with a focus on countries in the Middle East and North Africa aims to provide a brief overview of the NAP experiences of middle-income countries in the region and highlight emerging issues, challenges and opportunities.

VILLAGE VULNERABILITY AND CLIMATE RISK INDEX - Strategic Planning and Action to Strengthen Climate Resilience of Communities in Nusa Tenggara Timor province (SPARC)

Village vulnerability and climate risk index for East Nusa Tenggara, conducted under the project 'Strategic Planning and Action to Strengthen Climate Resilience of Communities in Nusa Tenggara Timor province (SPARC). The report finds that while village vulnerability levels in NTT Province generally declined between 2005 and 2011, if efforts are not made to improve the resilience, vulnerability will likely increase in the future. Adaptation efforts or programs need to be done as early as possible and prioritized in villages with medium to very high climate risks.

Report - 'Science to Practice: Lessons Learnt from Community Based Adaptation in a Semi Arid Region of Indonesia' - Strategic Planning and Action to Strengthen Climate Resilience of Communities in Nusa Tenggara Timor province (SPARC)

The implementation of climate change adaptation activities under the SPARC provide lessons on adaptation efforts, from planning to action. The SPARC offers learnings  which can be grouped into: 1) issues in implementation, 2) awareness on climate change impacts, 3) rules and actions on CCA at the local level, and 4) mainstreaming CCA into local government programs and budget allocations.

Best Practices - Strategic Planning and Action to Strengthen Climate Resilience of Communities in Nusa Tenggara Timor province (SPARC)

The SPARC project in Nusa Tenggara Timor Province was piloted in 21 climate- vulnerable villages in three districts (Manggarai, East Sumba and Sabu Raijua) reaching more than 1000 households. The project interventions were intended to strengthen community’s security in water, food and livelihoods. For the latter, it was undertaken particularly through the diversification of income generating activities. 

2018 Market Assessment on Climate Service in Africa

This continental-scale market assessment investigated how thriving commercial weather markets could be catalysed in the 11 African countries supported by the CIRDA programme, and how their NHMSs could maximise benefit they derive from such markets.

Integrating Agriculture in National Adaptation Plans (NAP–Ag): Programme Highlights 2015-2018

The co-led UNDP and FAO Integrating Agriculture in National Adaptation Plans (NAP-Ag) Programme is a multi-year (2015-20), USD 17 million initiative funded by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU). The Programme supports 11 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America to identify and integrate climate change adaptation measures into relevant national planning and budgeting processes, with a focus on the agricultural sectors. This integration is helping to enhance institutional capacities and processes towards operationalizing climate response strategies in the agricultural sectors. NAP-Ag seeks to foster innovative partnerships between ministries of agriculture, environment, planning and finance, and other national actors.  This report highlights the achievements of the programme from 2015 to 2018.
