Guardians of the Páramo and Climate Action” is a joint initiative launched by UNDP and the GEF Small Grants Programme to conserve biodiversity, restore ecosystems, and promote sustainable production in páramo and high Andean forests. The alliance builds on the Small Grants Programme’s model of channeling support directly to local organizations through community-led projects, ensuring that actions reflect local priorities while strengthening ownership and capacity. Complementing this approach, UNDP brings experience from its UNDP-FAO SCALA programme and Environment and Climate projects in the region, which support rural families and community processes by enhancing organizational and productive capacities, improving access to climate information, and fostering tools for adaptation planning and management. Together, these efforts aim to address climate challenges tied to rural agri-food systems, water resources, and bio- and agrobiodiversity in the Sumapaz region in Colombia.
